FLEET CONSOLIDATIONLike many in the leisure sector Covid has left its mark on our business and has resulted in a consolidation of the fleet. At present the intention is to operate just four boats during 2023, with the possibility that Clova will rejoin the fleet for the latter part of the season when her mini refit has been completed. WINTER MAINTENANCEThe fleet is now ashore and tucked up for the winter. Masts have been removed, sails are with our local sailmaker (Owen Sails), safety equipment has been sent away for servicing and the outboard motors are with the engineers up at Ardoran Marine. Whilst the fleet underwent a significant maintenance programme when being recommissioned after the Covid break we still have plenty to keep us busy this winter. In addition to the usual annual maintenance the list includes: Frances has been scheduled for a new paintjob this winter and is currently awaiting the move into the boatshed here at Ardfern. Once inside it is likely to take between two and three months for the work to be completed, following which she will be moved outside and left for the paint to fully harden before she is launched in time for the 2023 season. Ruby Too is having some internal fibreglass work done following a grounding in late JUly, following which the intention is to replace her saloon uphostery. Regular customers may be pleased to hear that the backrests will now be full height in an attempt to keep them where they are supposed to be! Ayla's rudder has been removed and the boatyard are currently replacing the rudder bearings. Once this has been completed we will be replacing the steering cables to complete the refurbishment. Her engine will be getting an overhaul and, finally, the companionway woodwork is to be refreshed. Tigger Too is awaiting a new curlass bearing, battery charger and batteries. We had considered replacing her engine but feedback from customers is that the existing engine has plenty of life left in it. CHARTER BASESince 2011 we have been based at Ardfern Yacht Centre, a short distance north of our original base on the Crinan Canal and about 20 miles south of Oban.
